Oreo Penguin Cookies from Woman’s Day

I’ll admit that I don’t buy magazines as often as I did in the past. With so many ways to get great recipes online, it is easy to see why. I typically can browse Pinterest and find several ideas. The unfortunate part about Pinterest is I don’t always know where the link is leading me. Sometimes I am sent to a spam site, sometimes I click to find instructions and discover it is an image only. So when I see something like the latest Woman’s Day issue for the holidays with 90 holiday recipes and ideas for only $2.79, it grabs my attention. For this affordable price, I can browse at my leisure as I lounge on the couch or while I’m waiting at an appointment. Woman’s Day sent me a few of the recipes found in this issue including Snowman Cupcakes. Their Oreo Penguin Cookies really stood out for me. Not only are they easy, but they would be great for the entire winter season, not just for the holidays.
Isn’t he adorable? My kids would love to help me assemble them. With no baking required, you can get started right away with no prep work!
Oreo Penguin Cookies

Oreo Penguin Cookies
Ingredients
- 12 standard Oreo cookies
- 12 mini Oreo cookies
- 2 to 3 tablespoons shredded coconut
- banana Runt candies
- candy eyes
- royal icing melted chocolate, or frosting (to use as glue)
Instructions

Separate 12 standard Oreos.

Press ½ tsp shredded coconut onto each cream piece (discard plain pieces).

Separate 12 mini Oreos; scrape off and discard the cream.

Cut 12 of the mini pieces in half.

Using one of the glue options mentioned above, stick candy eyes and the cut side of half a banana Runt on one mini piece (for the face).

Attach 2 half pieces to the body (for the wings).

Stick the cut sides of 2 banana Runt halves into the cream for the feet.

Repeat to create 12 penguins.
Wilton makes candy eyes for a reasonable price. They can be used for all sorts of baking projects. Look for them at major retailers and craft stores including Michaels and Jo-Ann Fabrics in the Wilton candy/baking aisle. You can also find candy eyes in store at Walmart and Target.
