American Girl Saige Doll: A Great Gift for the Holidays

My 7 year old daughter started getting American Girl Doll catalogs about a year ago.  She was hooked to say the least.  Every time one comes in the mail we have to sit down together and talk about all of the things she wants.  I was able to get her a Just Like You doll last year.  It was used, and she named it McKenna and pretends it is last years Doll of the Year McKenna.  Danica also named one of our pet chickens McKenna.  This year however, all of her attention has turned to Saige, the 2013 American Girl Doll of the year.  We watched the Saige Paints The Sky movie earlier this year and Danica has loved her ever since.

This past week I had the honor of giving my daughter a brand new, in the box Saige doll which we received for review.  Danica was SO thrilled.  She has kept this doll by her side ever since.  The first night I saw it in her room and Danica said “yes Mom, I was just showing her my room.”  The following day I found the two of them “camping” on our dining room floor.  I am sure these are just the first of many adventures they will have together.

I love the quality of the American Girl Dolls.  The 18 inch dolls have soft cloth bodies, but are able to stand on their own with smooth vinyl arms, legs and movable head.  They have eyes that open and close and realistic faces.  Saige even has charming little freckles on her face.

One of the best parts about the American Girl Dolls is that the historical dolls and the Dolls of the Year come with a book which puts a story with the dolls.  Saige is an artist who loves to spend time with her artist Grandmother.  This is so relatable for Danica as she too LOVES art and her Grandmother is a former art teacher who is an unbelievably talented artist.  I think Saige promotes hours of imaginative play in my daughter while also being her best friend, partner in crime, and confidant in time of need.

Danica REALLY loves that Saige comes with a beautiful turquoise ring (not real of course) and silver earrings.  Danica got her ears pierced this summer and is all about earrings these days.  I have seen in the catalog that you can also by additional earrings for the dolls.  I am sure I will be looking into that!

Saige comes dressed in:

• An indigo knit dress with cropped sleeves, geometric embroidery reminiscent of southwestern art, and a tiered skirt
• Tall leather-look boots with wrap straps
• A turquoise-colored ring to bring out her eyes, plus fun earrings
• Blue cotton underwear (Danica was excited she had real underwear on.  Kinda funny, but I guess she was happy to see she was properly clothed.)

Sadly, Saige will soon be retiring as American Girl Doll of the Year so you have to hurry and get yours and her accessories if you want them before they are gone. It was such a pleasure for me to provide my daughter a gift that I know she will cherish and probably keep for the rest of her life.
