It’s been a while since I’ve done an “Inspired by Pinterest” craft so I thought I’d roll this one out for a heart stamp craft, just in time for Valentine’s Day. I’ve been seeing so many fun cardboard roll (toilet paper or paper towel) crafts circulating and have wanted to try them.. As a result I’ve been collecting our cardboard rolls at home to the extreme annoyance of my husband. Living with a crafter is not always easy!
I pinned this awesome post by Alisa Burke which not only shares the idea to use a cardboard roll as a heart to stamp but several other textural ideas for stamping with your roll. I can’t wait to try these.
On a recent day off from school we had a play date with two good friends and we pulled out the paint to make some Valentine’s Day cards. I love the thought and intention put into hand made cards. Check out our crafting fun below and give it a try yourself.
Supplies are simple. You’ll need a cardboard roll, paint of your choice (I used a fun shimmer paint by Kid Made Modern at Target), and tape. Optional supplies used to accessorize our heart stamps include brushes, stickers, and glitter paint in a squeeze bottle.
Roll the cardboard roll into the shape of a heart but pushing along the top and pinching the bottom into a point. Talk about the shape that the roll starts with (circle, cylinder) and how it changes. Tape the top of the roll to secure the shape.
Dip into the paint of your choice and stamp onto paper.
I provided a roll for each child and two colors of paint so they could stamp with each side of their roll.
Kids can use a brush to fill in the hearts if they’d like.
No need for perfection. Let them have fun with it, which obviously Ian did!
Layer your stamped hearts or make a pattern.
The craft gene runs strong in my family and my cousin Jessica took this to another level. She layered the heart stamps and then applied the glitter glue/paint into each outline.
The end result was spectacular! Note: This needed to dry overnight due to the thick paint.
When the base paint is dry apply more accents with glitter glue/paint from a bottle and stickers.
My daughter might have been more excited about the stickers.
She made good use of her space and covered most of the hearts – but these were her special creations and that’s what matters most.

Happy crafting and I apologize to your spouse for the possible hoarding of cardboard rolls in your home.
That is very creative! I love that idea for my nieces for Valentine’s Day.
This one is cute and easy to do! I would love to do this my little brother. But will just probably let go of the glitter. He hates it.
I remember how much fun it was to make our own valentines when we were kids. This is a great project.
I have 3 rolls sitting on my dresser right now, waiting for V-Day craft ideas. Thanks!
