Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies – Oh Yeah! {Recipe}

I absolutely love brownies. I love everything about them. Just how easy and inexpensive they are to make. Their forgiveness if you under or over cook them slightly. But most of all, their chewy chocolate, amazing taste.  Honestly, if someone told me they didn’t like brownies I don’t know if I could believe them.

So take a homemade brownie and add some chocolate chip cookie dough as a frosting layer and you’ve got a shut the front door! these are GOOD treat. I can’t take credit for the recipe because it came from Taste of Home and my mom actually made them for me last time we visited. (Well, technically I put together some of the ingredients for the topping but still.) I will take credit for making sure I snapped a picture with my iPhone so I could share the recipe with all of you.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies

Author Rebecca Kays - Taste of Home

Ingredients

  • 1 cup 6 ounces semisweet or milk chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts optional
  • COOKIE DOUGH TOPPING:
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup 6 ounces semisweet or milk chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 13x9 inch baking pan.
  2. Melt chocolate chips in microwave, being careful not to over cook. Stir chips until smooth and cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar.
  4. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  5. Stir in melted chocolate.
  6. In separate bowl, combine flour and baking soda. Stir gradually into batter then add walnuts if desired.
  7. Spread into baking dish.
  8. Bake at 350° for 16-22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack.
  9. Cookie Dough Topping: In a small bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
  10. Add milk and vanilla and beat.
  11. Add flour gradually.
  12. Stir in chocolate chips.
  13. Drop by tablespoonfuls over cooled brownies and carefully spread over top, being careful not to tear top layer of brownies. (This is why it is important you let your brownies cool completely).
  14. Cut into squares and store in the refrigerator.

Recipe Notes

Makes 4 dozen.

If you want to cut down on prep time,  you could easily make a regular pan of brownies with a mix and add this cookie dough layer!

You can thank me later, after you’ve made these brownies of awesomeness. It’s ok. I’ll wait….
