Crafting Fun with PomTree Pillow Puffs Creativity Kits + Giveaway

For the past two years I have been a Girl Scout Leader for my 8 year old daughters troop.  We meet twice a month and so I constantly find myself trying to find craft or activity ideas for the 16 girls in my troop.  It can be challenging to find something interesting, engaging, and appropriate for all girls in the group as there are definitely varying levels of ability and interest.  PomTree sent me some great PomTree Pillow Puff Kits that were the perfect activity for one of our recent meetings.

I received 3 of the Designer Mega Kits which include 6 mini pillows with coordinating charm necklaces.  The kits use no-sew sticky back felt to allow the girls to create adorable mini felt pillows to keep.  The girls could make the pillows, then decorate with sparkle gems and glitter glue.

The kits come in 2 styles, Zen Critters or Woodland Critters.  I received some of each and I really can’t say that the girls preferred one over the other.  They all seemed to like all of the cute little characters which made it very easy as there was no fighting over a certain pillow.

My co-leader and I opened up the kits at the beginning of the meeting while the girls were having their snack.  It was then that I realized they pillows were not at all sorted.  All of the pieces in the packages for all 6 pillows and charm necklaces were all mixed together.  They were not labeled and the only instructions were a general how to stick the front to the back and how to assemble the necklaces.  Really this would not have been a big deal if I had allowed myself time to sort them.  Myself and the other 2 adults there spent quite awhile looking at the pictures on the boxes and trying to figure out which tiny piece went with which pillow.  It would be nice if they would have been separated in the package.  I wouldn’t let this deter me from buying these kits, but I would absolutely make sure to allow myself time ahead of time to sort the pieces.

The stuffing for each character is pre-cut into the shapes of the pillows.  Some were obvious such as the fox, but others were a little harder to tell which was which.  The pillows are assembled by peeling off paper backing leaving the sticky back felt.  Most of it stuck very well, but we did have several instances where one side was popping open.  I think if I did it again I would consider trimming some of the filling so there was more of the sticky backing to stick together.  Once the front was stuck to the back, the other decorations seemed to stick very well.

I was also slightly disappointed by the size of the pillows.  I felt the packaging was misleading as it shows a girl holding a pillow at least as big as her head.  The real pillows measure roughly 5 in by 6 in depending on the critter which as you can see in the comparison picture is much smaller than what is pictured on the box.  I assume that what is shown on the box must actually be from one of PomTree’s Designer Pillow Kits ($7.99) which are similar but larger.

The girls loved the kits and the necklaces and for the most part were able to assemble them without too much adult help.  We adults did have to put all of the barrel clasps on the necklaces as that was a little more challenging. Overall, with a little better pre-planning, I would recommend these kits.  They would be perfect for birthday parties, sleepovers or just a rainy day.
