Did you get a chance to make something extra-special for your valentine this year? It’s never too late to remind the one you love that you want to spend time with them. Sometimes we struggle to come up with fun ideas for date nights or even family fun days. This doesn’t have to be something extravagant or even out of the house. Why not make a date jar! I saw this idea here on pinterest and wanted to make my own spin on it.

I didn’t have time to paint or find colored craft sticks (who has time for paint to dry?) so I took out the markers and did my own coloring. My daughter was really excited to see me color on craft sticks so I gave her two markers of her own and let her join in on the fun.

I added two categories to our jar, “Family” and “Family – $$” so we could all be included on the fun ideas. You could make your categories anything you’d like really. Grab some markers, any jar or container you have handy (this one was a jam jar), craft sticks or strips of paper, ribbon (optional) and a tag (optional) to label your color code if you chose to make one at all. The steps below the image below are pretty easy to follow.

Let your imagination run wild with your couple/family date ideas. Come up with them as a surprise or make it a family affair and let everyone contribute ideas to the jar. Have fun with it!

PLUS – I’ve included a free printable if you’d like to use my date jar tag

OurDateJar_Tutorial_web1) Chose your colors and mark the top of your craft sticks – let dry.

2) Write your couple/family date ideas on each stick – get creative.

3) Wrap a ribbon around the top (optional).

4) Print the label or make your own.

5) Punch a hole and tie to ribbon.

6) HAVE FUN with your family!
