Getting My Son Involved in Shopping for Dinner #SaveonHelper

I was traveling last week so when I got back I knew I’d have to go shopping. There is nothing worse than coming back to a bare fridge. I knew I wanted something easy for a family meal over the weekend. I never feel like cooking something complicated when I’m still recovering from travel. And since it is National Hamburger Month, why not go with something simple like Hamburger Helper®? So I took my little guy Wes with me to my local Walmart to restock my fridge and get something for dinner.
It was a beautiful day, perfect for our outing. Wesley loves to be my helper in the store, so I told him upfront he’d have to help me find all the items on our list.
Getting kids involved in the store always makes our shopping trips easier. Wesley doesn’t get bored or distracted because he is on a mission to help mama!

It is amazing how just a few ingredients together can make for a quick and easy meal.
Of course no shopping trip to Walmart is complete without stopping by the arcade area to “pretend” ride the red jeep. We never actually put money in it to ride it. Instead we take that money and head over to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals collection bin to watch our money go down and around. Wesley loves watching the coins spin!
Before making up my list, I found some recipe inspiration online to get ideas for changing things up a bit. I did not simply make traditional Hamburger Helper®, but it was just as easy. Be sure to watch for my post later this week where I share exactly what I served for dinner! It was simple and delicious, my kind of meal.
In the meantime, save on your next purchase of Hamburger Helper® with this dinner rebate from Ibotta, a smart new way to earn cash when you shop!
