MakerWear: Hats Designed by the People for the People #makerwear #ootd

Do you like having a say in the style of clothing you where? MakerWear uses consumer driven designs for their trendy hats which support independent designers. It is easy to submit a design to show off your awesome talents, or if you are like me and have little to no artistic abilities, vote for your favorite. Pretty cool, right?

Anyone with an idea can submit a design, or vote for their favorite (hence curated crowd sourcing). The best designs get made, and make it to the shelves of stores like Target, all across the country, and the designer gets a cut of the sales. It’s not just a whole new way of doing business; it’s a better way, the MakerWear way, Powered by the People.

I got to pick out three hats to try myself.  I absolutely love hats, especially on my kids. You might almost call it a hat addiction and thankfully all my kids have loved wearing them. But my option is only a single favorite winter hat that I’ve been rocking for around four years because I love it so much. It was certainly time to branch out.

I picked out this cool Waverly five panel hat designed by Wolfum, a small Los Angles design house of handmade textiles, hell bent on covering your house in awesome artistry. I paired it with some skinny jeans, long black tank  with bronze studding, black flats, and some gold earrings with blue beads. I had just done my makeup with a bombshell look and it fit perfectly!

I also chose the Camo five panel hat by J.J. Spectre, a famous urban muralist and hyper-realist who is mildly fixated on type and obsessed with getting people to question reality. This seriously fits with at least half of my wardrobe. I paired it with gray skinny pants, a long gray sweater, knit scarf and knee-high black boots. This hat has a ton of versatility.

This Party baseball cap also drew my attention. It is by Leslie Haines, a Nashville designer and teacher with type, ink and the color orange on her side. My husband immediately laid claim to this hat and I can’t really blame him. It has a fabulous fit and looks great. I paired it with black leggings, mid-length gray boots, black fleece with additional detailing, royal blue scarf and bright red satchel.  This is a perfect look for around town and is a great excuse to skip styling my hair.
