My 7 year old daughter Danica has recently shown great interest in helping to prepare meals. She can now crack and egg and fry it (with assistance), boil pasta noodles and even made an excellent batch of brownies last week. I love that she is interested in cooking and I hope her passion for it continues. Maybe someday she can compete on MasterChef Junior. Probably not likely, but I can dream for her right?
MasterChef Junior is getting ready for their second season premiere this Tuesday Nov 4th at 8/7 central on FOX.
MasterChef Junior gives the best junior home cooks in America the chance to showcase their culinary abilities and passion for food through a series of delicious challenges. Host and award-winning chef Gordon Ramsay is joined by restaurateur Joe Bastianich and acclaimed chef Graham Elliot on the MasterChef Junior judging panel.
Each week, the eight to thirteen year old contestants will be coached and encouraged by the celebrated food experts as they compete in exciting challenges. In the end, one talented kid will be named America’s newest MasterChef Junior, receiving a $100,000 prize and the coveted MasterChef Junior trophy.
In preparation for the season premiere my family received an awesome MasterChef Junior viewing box full of exciting food ideas and supplies to get my family involved in making a tasty treat to eat while we enjoy the premiere. We went ahead and made one of the yummy popcorn treats this past week just to try it out before premiere night.
Cheesy Rosemary Popcorn
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- 1/4 cup cooking oil such as vegetable or grape seed
- 1/2 cup parmesan
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp dried rosemary
Instructions
-
Cover the bottom of a large pot with a light coating of cooking oil.
-
Place 4 kernels in pan. When they pop, your oil is hot. Add enough popcorn to cover the bottom of the pan.
-
Lower the heat, shake the pan to spread kernels, and cover.
-
When the popping begins to slow, remove the pan from the heat.
-
In a separate bowl, mix parmesan, olive oil, salt and rosemary.
-
Add the rosemary mixture to the popcorn pot and toss lightly.
-
Transfer popcorn to serving bowl or individual bags. Enjoy!
Now I have to admit, we cheated and used an air popper instead of popping in the pan. This was probably a mistake, because the rosemary mixture did not want to stick to our popcorn. We also decided to add some garlic salt to our popcorn as we love garlic salt.
It was fun to get the kids all involved in the process. We had them each measure out and pour in one of the ingredients.
The outcome was great. At least my husband and I thought so. The kids weren’t huge fans of the rosemary, but they ate it anyway.
I can’t wait to try some of the other fun recipes we received like the Sweet Cinnamon Sugar Popcorn and watch the season premiere of MasterChef Junior on Tuesday Nov 4 at 8/7 central.

Uhm, is that even a real question? Kettlecorn since I missed our Apple fest and couldn’t get some there 🙁
i was a little late on watching this because i wanted to make sure and watch it with my son and i loved it but it made me so sad when they cried but i think that little 9 year old with the brown hair is the cutest little thing and they all say the cutest little things!!!
This is such a fun show and I love watching with my kids. Its amazing what these kids can whip up.

My son really loves watching the kids on Masterchef Junior. It definitely makes him want to help me in the kitchen, which I enjoy a lot.
I love watching MasterChef Junior. The skill level of some of these kids is truly mind-boggling. I could barely make mac and cheese from a box even in college!
They are soo cute! My daughters would love to do this too! 🙂 We’d make kettle corn first! Yum!! 🙂
I love that it comes with junior spices and the popcorn boxes! Looks perfect for a family movie night!

My five year old daughter is obsessed with the show. I like that Junior is back on because they are more supportive of one another than the adults! Since it airs after her bedtime, we DVR it and then watch it the next day after homework!
I always like to see what the kids come up. They are very creative.
my daughter is always asking to help cook so i like this gets her involved with cooking. we would make white cheddar popcorn.
