St. Patrick’s Day is coming and that means we get to look forward to my daughter’s birthday soon as well! In honor of her this time of year, I’m focusing my craftiness on all things rainbows (her favorite obsession at the moment). What’s more festive than rainbows and shamrocks? Enjoy a little craft tutorial brought to you by Elmer’s Early Learners Academy. Enter to win a $25 gift card plus a glue stick and glue pen below! #EarlyLearnersAcademy

You might remember the rainbow mask tutorial I did with Elmer’s new Early Learner’s Academy glue stick and pen a while ago. We love the new design and have almost used them up on crafts since then. We’ve been anxiously waiting for them to hit stores. I was shopping at my local Michaels store recently and guess what I found! Yesssss

Working with early childhood education experts and moms, we designed the Elmer’s Early Learners line specifically for little hands. Keep reading to see all the ways our new Glue Stick and Glue Pen can help your child benefit from fun arts & crafts projects.
As usual, Michaels had everything we needed for our upcoming rainbow crafts plus a lot more that we couldn’t live without – aaaand a few things we could (see below).

We filled our cart with all things rainbow and headed to the check-out. Here’s an easy but fun craft idea for your pint sized crafter. I hope you have fun making your rainbow shamrock!
Supplies
• Elmer’s Early Learners Academy glue stick and/or glue pen
• Rainbow colored construction paper (1 sheet in every color plus a backer sheet – we chose shamrock green)
• Popsicle stick (optional if you want a handle for your shamrock) – we chose green
• Scissors (appropriate for the age of your child)
• Pencil or pen
Instructions
This craft is really simple so even little ones can help. Cut strips the long direction of your construction paper. Keep in mind the total height of the page so you have enough to cover the page. Line them up on the page to ensure they cover (our orange was too narrow so we cut a wider stripe). Encourage diversity in the stripes to add some fun to your rainbow design. If your child (or you) are in favor of the correct color order here’s your cheat sheet (doesn’t every child have this memorized by age 3 like my daughter and myself? haha). Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple. If you’re construction paper has varying shades of green, blue, pink etc., feel free to include them if you’d like.
Apply the Elmer’s glue pen to your popsicle stick and adhere it to the center (of the widest point) of your green paper. Be sure to glue a good portion of the stick to the paper so it’s well supported. Apply Elmer’s glue stick to the top of the green backing page and adhere your first stripe. Continue working your way down until the entire page is covered with the popsicle stick sandwiched in-between.
On the back of the green sheet, draw a shamrock. Don’t be scared. Just think of three big hearts overlapping in the center. Again, it doesn’t have to be perfect. Make your shape large so it reaches to the full top and bottom of the page so you see all of the colors. Ensure you leave paper on either side of the popsicle stick at the base. Cut out the shamrock shape and you’re done!
If you’d like to supply additional decorative supplies, kids can decorate to their hearts delight if they’d like to.

Triangular in shape, the Elmer’s Early Learners glue stick and glue pen help preschoolers by encouraging the development of critical fine motor skills, including the precise pincer grasp, the pre-writing tripod grasp and active manipulation of objects, which are highly predictive of academic success in elementary school reading and math. The products also encourage creativity and imaginative play, which are critical to cognitive development in a young mind.
