As I anxiously await the arrival of a new baby (something I haven’t shared with you yet), I’ve been looking back through some of the baby pictures of my daughter, Nora. It’s amazing how much they change and how much you forget in six years. I’m so grateful to have pictures to document so many of the special firsts we’ve shared together. Pampers asked me to share some of these moments with you.
After many long years of infertility and the early loss of two babies prior to her, our first ultrasound with Nora was incredibly emotional. We’d endured countless tests and procedures to get here and were on our last round of IUI when we learned it had finally worked. We were pregnant and prayed this little life would soon be healthy and well in our arms.
My pregnancy was uneventful until the last few months when I started gaining massive amounts of fluid, had tingling in my hands/fingers, saw flashing lights and floaters in my eyes and was plagued by mid back pain and nausea. After being told to go home four times I was finally admitted at 36 weeks upon the discovery of HELLP syndrome which threatened my life. Nora needed to be born immediately. I shared more of this story here. *If you have any of these symptoms with pregnancy seek help immediately!
When Nora was born safe and I somehow survived emergency surgery, we were all relieved but confused and scared about what we had just been through. Because I was so sick and Nora had jaundice, I was only allowed to see her for 15 minutes to nurse every three hours. She was in the nursery under lights and I was confined to my bed for six days with low platelets and magnesium treatments. It was beginning to feel as if I hadn’t even seen my new baby after so many days/hours apart. Being the self advocate that I’ve had to be, I approached my doctor about having her in my room WITH the lights. It wasn’t done at our hospital but after some begging they made an exception and we were able to at least be near each other despite her being in an incubator. I was so thankful to see her snuggly and warm in nothing but her and shades to protect her eyes. We couldn’t believe how calm and relaxed she was. Nora was the first baby in our hospital to be allowed in mom’s room with this treatment. Six years later it’s standard practice.

Our transition home was rough. I was still trying to heal after an emergency c-section and my body was still trying to normalize. Nora was so sleepy and wasn’t nursing well which led to nursing, pumping and cup feeding every two hours for a week. Exhausting but worth it. I didn’t change a single diaper for two or three weeks with the help of my amazing husband and parents who took shifts around the clock to help care for both of us. Finally the time came when that first dirty diaper and beautiful baby girl were staring back at me. Time to figure it out!
Being a new mom I appreciated the color changing wetness indicator on the front of our telling me when she was wet. She was in premie and newborn diapers for a long time (she came home at 4 lbs 6 oz) and they fit well around her tiny, skinny legs. I found that other brands leaked through the leg openings because she didn’t have the baby fat most do. The Swaddlers were soft and safe for her delicate skin. We came home from the hospital with Swaddlers and continued to use them. We’ve been a Pampers family ever since. are the #1 choice of hospitals in North America and are now available through size 6!

The first time my daughter smiled & cooed.
The most memorable first was my daughter’s beautiful smile 🙂
seeing my daughter for the first time
I remember my kids first starting to crawl and I really loved their first words. Its even more fun and exciting with my grand kids.
My favorite is the first time he tried to say my name.
My favorite first with my children was their first time nursing!
The first time our son talked was my favorite. He said mama and just hearing his voice was great!
I do not have human children (I am entering to win this so that I can donate all of the prizes, except the GC, to charity 🙂 ) but I do have my children of choice, my cats! 😀 One of my most memorable firsts with them was finding them abandoned in my bamboo patch near my front door. They were kittens from a feral cat colony that we helped to feed and shelter in our back yard. Their parents were captured and killed by an ignorant neighbor. We took in the kittens, eyes not even open, and raised them by hand. They will be 10 in June! 😀
My most memorable first is the first time I saw my daughter, after an emergency c-section I had to wait a while before I got to see her, but I just remember feeling like my heart would burst from so much love the first time I saw her.
when he looks at you right after he’s born
when my son said I love you…I cried
I think that first word was my most memorable first.
my daughter gave me a kiss and a hug
I remember the first steps!
The first milestone of my baby, I remember when my baby started to crawl all the time put it in your gym and want to take a toy is pushed with their small feet there no longer stop crawling
Our favorite milestone was when my daughter really saw snow. She is an Alaska babya nd didn’t remember from last winter, but this winter the snow has confused her, but also made her giggle.
my most memorable first with my daughter was when she laughed out loud for the first time.
I love first smiles 🙂
When my daughter looked up at me as she was nursing and smiled.
The first words are always so special and memorable.
