Planning a party is never easy and can be very timing consuming. That was very apparent when preparing for my dad’s luau birthday celebration.
Conspiring and working out the party details with my mom over the course of 3 months: 8 hours
My mom’s (with sister) stealth visits to the travel agent(s): 6 hours
Mom’s shopping and preparing for the party : 20 hours
Decorating time with sister: 2 hours
Mom’s cooking and preparing party food: 10 hours
Cake made with lots of love and homemade goodness by me: 10 hours
Seeing my dad’s face as my mom surprised him with a very much deserved and long overdue already paid vacation?

I got teary eyed looking at your dad’s expressions, how pathetic am I? I’m so glad he had a great birthday and definitely sounds like a much deserved vacation. The cake looks great as well, you did a good job!
Just like my Dad, emotional when he’s happy.
What a great gift! I really do love the look on your dad’s face – you can just tell how much he was really touched and moved by the cruise!

Sounds like he had a great birthday, and as always the cake was gorgeous! I’m so envious of your talent.
You are so sweet! Actually the cake is much easier than you think once you learn the basics and have a little patience. But thanks for making me smile! 🙂
Easy for you, maybe… LOL
I’m hoping I can take a Wilton class soon, so I can learn the basics. I’d love to learn the basic techniques 🙂
how wonderful… what a gift… I got teary seeing your dad’s reaction!
You did a great job on the cake. Love the look on his face. You can tell he didn’t know what to say to such a nice gift.
i love the progression of your dad’s expression as he opens his gift. Amazing moment to capture.
Aww I loved your post and a question, did your dad tear up when he was reading his card about his cruise? It looks like he was a little bit by the pictures. IT’s so sweet for you guys to have gone through all that trouble and time to create a memorable birthday party but you are right at the end of the day it’s all worth it! My sister and mom with the help of my boyfriend prepared my baby shower , it took them a month, lots of expenses and time our of their already busy lives and I couldn’t have been more grateful, I still am! By the way the cake that you made for your dad looks so great and yummy! I’m sure he’ll forever be thankful 🙂
