Yes, we all know that fast food is not good, for anyone, ever. However, sometimes you are on the go, on the road, or simply don’t have time. While running to McDonalds and getting that Big Mac is not the best option, not all fast food chains and meals are created equal. There are some meals that are actually okay to eat every once in a while from fast food chains when you’re in need of a quick meal but don’t want to splurge on your diet. Here are five of the healthiest fast food meals available at different chains.
6 Inch Turkey Breast Sandwich on 9 Grain Wheat Breads from Subway at around 300 Calories (Varies by bread choice and additive choices.) Turkey being one of the best lean meats, and 9 grain bread being full of nutritional grains, this is a great option if you are on the go and near a Subway. Be sure to not slather this healthy sandwich in condiments though!
Strawberry Blueberry Yogurt Parfait from Starbucks at 290 calories. Yogurt is healthy, probiotics are a great addition to any meal. Consuming this Yogurt Parfait on the go is a great alternative to that smoothie or shake from a fast food chain slathered in calories and sugars.
Half Smoked Turkey Breast on Artisan Whole Grain Loaf and Low-Fat Garden Vegetable/Pesto Soup from the Pick Two Menu at Panera Bread at 360 calories Again, turkey is great, along with whole grains breads and vegetables for a filling healthy on the go meal.
Egg White Veggie Wake-Up Wrap plus hash browns from Dunkin’ Donuts at 350 calories. Need a quick breakfast on the go? This egg white veggie wrap with hash browns is a great alternative to that high calorie and fat filled McMuffin.
Veggie Burger from Burger King at round 310 Calories, can vary depending on additives. Eliminate the Mayo and enjoy a veggie burger, without any guilt when you’re on the go!
Eat these guilt free foods from fast food chains and remember a few things while doing so; remember to always choose whole grain breads, eliminate the condiments, add fruits and veggies as sides where ever possible (McDonalds and Subway as well as a few others offer apple slices as a side), and be sure to choose a healthy drink option over that sugary or “diet” soda. Don’t be afraid to eat fast food, just be sure to eat it in moderation and choose the healthiest options.
