Moving is hard. Of course the excitement of it all takes over once your perfect home is chosen but then once you’re surrounded by boxes and and an endless to-do list it all sort of sinks in. With our recent transition to a new home it was important to us for our daughter to have as much normalcy as she could. We set to work transitioning her room right away and within a few hours my amazingly talented mother-in-law had her room painted and ready for furniture. My daughter wanted a rainbow room with green grass and blue skies. Having used a soft green for the “grass” simply as a cost saving measure with the extra paint from our own bedroom, she wasn’t happy. She wanted grass green, not soft green. RoomMates Peel and Stick Decor saved the day when they asked me to review their wall decals! I couldn’t resist their mia & co wall decals.
I searched on the RoomMates site and with a quick search found several fun and whimsical flower designs. I especially loved the hand-drawn quality of their Buttercups. The adorable three butterflies was an added joy.
After some room rearranging and final furniture placement we finally set to work on the addition of the RoomMates flowers. With the help of my husband (who’s placed decals as part of his job for years) we carefully cut out each of the main flower details.
Unfortunately these weren’t the easiest decals to transfer. The transfer page was a thicker, stickier vinyl than the actual wall graphic itself meaning the design bubbled and pulled from the wall when you removed the transfer page. I’m sure some designs are more challenging than others and with these thin black lines it became a detailed job to ensure that the stems were straight and secured to the wall. Although the advantage of these wall decals is the ability to remove and move them if you’d like (with no residue left behind) it also means the adhesive isn’t very strong when applying them. After some initial frustration we did eventually get them placed cleanly.
After the three main buttercup flowers were placed on the wall where we wanted them we set to work planning the placement of the smaller flowers (or mushrooms as my daughter likes to call them). It was nice to cut them out and set them against the wall to get an idea where they looked best before we placed them on the wall.
Once my daughter approved placement of the small decals I helped put them on the wall. Apart from the designs with the small black lines it was actually easier to remove these from the transfer page completely and just apply them to the wall like a big sticker to avoid the puckering and pulling.
This is the final design of the main wall in her room. With the heat vent on the wall and the slanted ceiling we’re not able to put furniture here so it’s fun to have these bright, beautiful buttercups to liven up the space.
We added little details near the other floor vent where we knew the wall would always be exposed. Although the black vinyl outlines were at times a challenge I just love that they show the wall color through them.
At just $37.49 these vinyl wall decals make transforming any room an affordable option. Maybe your older kids need to add some interest to a dorm room or apartment where they otherwise can’t change the walls.
Perhaps you have a Frozen fan in the family? RoomMate’s offers a wide variety of Disney designs and even personalization!
I’m excited to use RoomMates’s African Flowers Wall Decals to brighten up my guest bathroom which is right next to my daughter’s room. I think the colors and simplistic shapes will tie the themes together well without being as child-like so it’s welcoming for guests as well. Now to find the time to paint first (does that to-do list ever end?).
