Candy Butterfly Craft Tutorial | Easter Children’s Books with Harper Collins {Giveaway}

Easter comes early this year and when you live in Minnesota that means that you’re likely to be wearing your winter hat instead of an Easter bonnet. The last two years have been glorious weather. I was looking back at pictures of my daughter and am continually amazed at how much she’s changed from year to year. It seems like holidays seem to emphasize growth and change as I remember that beautiful dress she wore that looks so tiny now.

We were at my in-law’s house when Nora truly experienced her first year coloring eggs and hunting for hidden treats to fill her basket. The sun was shining bright and we were able to hide her basket outside (a rare event indeed)! We even had some impromptu chalk art. Daddy, Papa Joe, and Nana joined in. We’re truly blessed with such loving family.

I always try to include a special book in my daughter’s Easter basket and this year Harper Collins Publishers offered a beautiful variety of children’s books. Do you have a favorite Easter book from your childhood?

I’m most excited about is How Big Is God? by Lisa Tawn Bergren, illustrated by Laura J. Bryant. I’m in LOVE with these illustrations. As I was flipping through the pages I quickly realized that this is the same illustrator of another very important book in our lives, Heaven: God’s Promise for Me by Anne Graham Lotz (read more about how this book touched our lives here). How Big Is God? describes the beauty of our relationship with God and how He can be both as small as a grain of sand and as big as a beach, as small as a drop of water and as big as a waterfall. What a beautiful message to remember as we celebrate that He is risen this Easter.

I’ve always loved the symbolism that a butterfly represents (death into life). I love to find crafts and basket items that help us remember that Jesus saves through his death on the cross and resurrection. Use this simple craft to discuss this message with your little ones. We had a butterfly birthday party for my daughter recently and used fishy crackers to fill the “wings” of the treat bag but jelly beans are of course colorful and fun too.

MATERIALS: Clothespin, pipe cleaner, marker (or anything to decorate the clothespin), zipper snack bag, snack to fill the snack bag (jelly beans, fishy crackers, cheerios, colorful cereal, fruit, etc.) 1. Fill snack bag. 2. Color clothespin. 3. Pinch clothespin in center of snack bag. 4. Curl ends of pipe cleaner and pinch with clothespin. Save for the Easter basket or give as a gift to a special friend!
