Have you tried a cherry smoothie that tastes like cherry pie? If not, your taste buds have been missing out! This cherry yogurt smoothie is loaded with cherry flavor because it offers a one, two punch with both frozen cherries and tart cherry juice. Add in some thick vanilla whole milk yogurt and top with a little whipped cream and you’ve got a smoothie that is sure to brighten up your morning!
Frozen cherry desserts are really a favorite in my house. I’ve got some cherry fudge chunk ice cream that is currently taunting me from my freezer. I was craving a way to enjoy that burst of cherry flavor without any guilt. A smoothie is much healthier alternative but still tastes amazing.
Cherry Smoothie Ingredients
I grabbed some frozen cherries, vanilla yogurt and whipped cream during my usual Target run. I can always count on Target to have some great smoothie ingredients. Most of the time when you find cherry or cranberry juice they have been diluted but not R.W. Knudsen Family Single Fruit Juices. I spotted these single-fruit, unsweetened, 100% juices on a top shelf at Target and grabbed both flavors.
Not only are they USDA organic, they are Non-GMO Project Verified with all natural ingredients. What is not to love? My husband is a huge cranberry juice fan so I knew he’d be happy to see Organic Just Cranberry® Juice in our fridge. Yum!
How to Make a Cherry Smoothie
A cherry smoothie made from frozen cherries is absolutely delicious! Frozen fruit makes any smoothie nice and frothy without loosing any flavor like you can with ice. For this one I wanted to keep the cherry flavor at the forefront so the only other flavor I incorporated was a creamy vanilla yogurt.
I used whole milk yogurt but Greek yogurt would be just as good. If you opt for a plain yogurt you’ll want to add a bit of vanilla extract and add a sweetener or this smoothie will be extra tart. I like tart cherries so I didn’t add any but honey is a great option. I recommend making it without and blending some in if you find it too tart for your tastes.
You could stop here because it is delicious as is, but I wanted to give myself that cherry pie feeling! I topped my cherry smoothie with whipped cream and a few graham cracker crumbs. A fresh cherry finished the look and the result was perfect for my cherry pie smoothie.
Most of the time smoothies get diluted a bit in their flavor because of the combination of ingredients but not this smoothie! Because Organic Just Tart Cherry® Juice is undiluted it provides the ultimate taste of cherry unlike many other juices.
This cherry smoothie recipe is loaded with flavor and tastes like a cherry pie in a glass! It was exactly the refreshing drink I was looking for this summer.
