If someone would have told me last year that making my own paper ornaments would be easy, I wouldn’t have believed them. At least not easy for me. Homemade ornaments used to mean something you made in school and brought home as a gift to your mom and dad. Certainly not a project I would take on myself. But lately I’ve been bit by the crafting bug. And when I discovered just how easy it is to create these paper ball ornaments with just a few materials, I was hooked. I thought it would be a perfect way to incorporate the theme of Nostalgic Noel as part of Joann Fabrics Make Gifts Merrier campaign that I was asked to participate in. If you’ve never tried making your own vintage paper ball ornaments, you really should give them a try!
- scrapbook paper
- 3″inch paper hole punch
- mini gold bells (optional)
- glue stick
- glue gun
To make a single ornament, punch out 16 three inch circles using your favorite paper. I wanted a nostalgic feel for my ornaments so I chose vintage scrapbook paper. I picked four different patterns and make four circles each.
Using your glue sick, add glue to on side of the white circle. Place another sheet of scrapbook paper over the glue, lining them up as neatly as possible to create an accordion shape and pressing down to seal as you go. (I alternated each of the four papers to create a pattern.)
Cut some twine to your desired length for your ornament. How long will depend upon how far down you want your ornament to hang on your tree. I just eyeballed it. To finish my vintage look off, I ran the twine through two small gold bells.
Glue the last paper folds together to create a ball shape, and bring your bells down the twine so they rest at the top of the ornament. (Alternatively, you can also hot glue the bells to the top of the twine.)
That is all there is to it! These make great gifts and are a perfect holiday project for your kids!
