Halloween Costume Play Date Fun with Party City

Our Halloween party last year was such a hit with the kids that I was excited to partner with Party City again for a Halloween costume play date. I invited my two fabulous contributing writers, Sarah and Janelle, and their kids over for some Halloween fun! And fun, it certainly was!
After looking at the Halloween party supplies at Party City, I decided on this spooky but not scary Boo Crew Halloween Party Theme. Isn’t it awesome? I love the bright green, purple, orange and black combination. There are plenty of coordinating pieces and it was hard to choose!
Party City was kind enough to send along a set of five costumes for our play date. Included were Hulk and Captain America (my own little Avengers) and two beautiful Disney Princesses, Rapunzel and Jasmine. (My youngest Wesley also received a costume but was taking a nap during the first half of the party and missed out on pictures.)
My favorite costumes were Rapunzel and my baby’s dragon costume. (More on that later.) I was very impressed with the quality on both of these costumes! The deluxe Rapunzel costume is a Party City exclusive and I highly recommend it.
The Hulk costume fit a bit on a the small side and the mask was the traditional plastic mask which means it isn’t overly comfortable. The Captain America costume was a nice quality but my son found the mask a bit annoying on his face because it kept shifting as he played. Neither of these were bad costumes, they just didn’t impress me as much as the other two.
Unfortunately the Jasmine costume left glitter around the house and ripped all the way up the leg during the play date. Whether this was because of poor construction or because it was rather big and perhaps just got caught on something is hard to say since an adult didn’t see it happen.
I had plenty of fun staying up well into the night to decorate my dining room for the party! We had the Boo Crew Party Kit for 8 ($29.99) so that gave me a good base to start with. I also added the Boo Crew Paper Fan Decorations (6 ct $9.99) which added some fun height to the space. The Paper Halloween Pennant Banner ($5.99) was a bit large for my wall so I simply cut it to allow for a more layered look above my window. The Giant Stretch Spider Web ($3.99) was a great finishing touch! But nothing compared to the interest and excitement the kids had over the treat bags which used Halloween Pop Ups, Boo Crew Stickers and Halloween Crazy Straws along with other goodies nestled within Boo Crew Popcorn Boxes.
Our party kit included a Pin the Smile on the Skeleton Game ($5.99) which was perfect for a wide variety of ages. I was a little concerned when I realized that there was nothing for a backing included in the game and the smiles were actually stickers. Would they come off my wall? To be safe I attached them to our swinging door which has semi-gloss paint. Only one child placed a smile off from the skeleton and thankfully we had no issues getting it off!
For food I tried to keep it fairly simply by serving a pepperoni pizza with a pumpkin face . We even had a second as a pig because of Janelle’s creativity on the spot. Also included was a Halloween Metal Tray filled with fresh vegetables and dip, a JELL-O brain, grapes and Apple Cider Halloween Punch.
To top the party off, I used these Mini Pedestal Cups to let guests create their own pudding cups. I offered three kinds of pudding, whipped topping, Halloween marshmallows and mini Oreos! It certainly offered another fun activity for the kids and was very easy to prepare the night before.
Wesley’s Baby Dinky Dragon Costume was my very favorite costume of all! Unlike many costumes, the sizing for 6-12 months was just right, giving him plenty of room to wear another layer of clothing underneath.
Besides loving the bright colors, the fabric is super soft and comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the back has an actual zipper and the wings are attached by four snaps, making them easy to remove. The feet are simply booties which cover the feet.
Adorable, isn’t it?
We had a blast at our Halloween play date and I look forward to making this a yearly tradition!
