It is the small things in life to really cherish. For my family, one thing we look forward to all week is the weekend brunch. Growing up it was something I experienced often and I always looked forward to this special meal of the day. I’ve passed this love onto my family as well. Since my boys are in their picky stage at 4 and 3, brunch is the one meal I know I can cook anything and they will love it. From pancakes to sausage, eggs, fruit platters and beyond, it is all good in this house.
The one breakfast food I’ll admit I’ve avoided are waffles. I hated dragging out my pathetic excuse for a waffle iron which trust me, should have been tossed long ago. I picked it out when I was 21, a poor college student who didn’t know any better and thought $20 was a normal price to pay for a waffle maker. I’ve gotten wiser as I’ve gotten older and realized that quality appliances do matter. This thing is a pain to clean not to mention makes waffles which are edible but get soggy fast and are nothing like the large waffles I craved from a restaurant.
In walks this beauty into my life. (Anyone else hear birds singing?)
This gorgeous appliance is the KitchenAid Pro Line Series Waffle Baker. And yes, I assure you, this appliance is amazing. It is like the rockstar of all waffle bakers and makes me giddy like a little kid with a new toy. My absolute favorite feature? It can cook two, yes two, waffles at the exact same time! And because we’ve found these waffles to be extremely filling, we’ve got breakfast cooked in no time.
Using this waffle baker is very simple. I’ve used it twice, the first of which was a boxed mixed from Hungry Jack because I knew I’d have to throw the first couple of waffles away per the instructions. It really was a great way to start actually because I learned that to produce a great tasting, high quality waffle, the baker is just as important if not more than the recipe. The waffles even from a mix turned out amazing and far superior to any of the waffles produced in my ‘el cheapo waffle maker.
The plates are non stick. And when they say non stick, they really mean non stick. No need to coat the plates with anything, simply pour the batter in once the baker has had a chance to preheat for a few minutes. Spread the batter out a bit then start the timer. You have full control over your time from 2 1/2 minutes to 5 1/2 minutes and your recipe and personal preference will dictate how long to cook it.
Immediately rotate the baker so both sides of the plates are coated. This is what creates an amazing tasting waffle! Fill the other side of the baker if desired and rotate again.
While it cooks you may notice steam or sometimes condensation on your baker but this is completely normal.
When the timer goes off you will hear a series of dings and the timer will start counting up in red. It will automatically turn off after 5 minutes of counting up. Removing the waffle is extremely easy with the non stick surface. Simply lift it up with something non metal. I found a rubber scraper worked well to lift and not damage the waffle.
Several tips are included in the instruction manual including how to keep your waffles crispy before serving. As soon as you put your waffle on a solid surface it will start to get softer so instead, place waffles on a wire rack to keep them nice and firm!
Doesn’t this look delicious? This recipe is found within the manual and is seriously sinful and wonderful. Check out the Chocolate Chip Waffle with Chocolate Whipped Cream recipe from my Spring into Spring Brunch Series.
The price is an investment, but the quality of the waffles produced and the obvious quality in the construction are worth it. The only real downside I can see is the size but again, it cooks two huge waffles beautifully, so how small could it be? This small inconvenience is small price to pay.
My mother is very excited to taste these waffles and try out the baker so I’ll be bringing it with me for Easter brunch. I know they will be a hit and who am I to deny them this waffle goodness?
If you are stumped on what to get (or what to ask for) for Mother’s Day, I can’t think of a better treat than this waffle baker. Imagine serving up or receiving a special waffle breakfast in bed. Or perhaps stopping over at your mom’s to present the baker and then staying to make the first batch as chance to treat your mom.
How would you like to win one?
