Every once in a while I come across a cool toy and wonder if it was created with one of my boys in mind. That certainly happened with Motorworks, a line of customizable vehicles from Manhattan Toy. I knew my six year old Lucian would love the collection so I didn’t pass up the opportunity to try it out when asked for a review.
What is included in the collection?
The MOTORWORKS Collection includes three different trim levels; the Street Series, Speed Series and Extreme Series so whatever style a child is into, it’s covered. Each series starts with a beautiful and detailed European beech wood body before the customization begins. Interchangeable pieces across all three series snap easily into place. Accessories kits, sold separately, allow young builders pleasing possibilities like custom car decals, side pipes and spoilers.
I let Lucian pick out two vehicles and to my surprise he picked the FX Tuner Wagon from the Street Series and the FX Fire Chief from the Extreme Series. Leave it to my kid to pick a wagon over a super sporty car!
Both my boys have always enjoyed playing with vehicles that allow for customization. I’ve got all the little parts in our playroom to prove it. But what I like about the Motorworks line versus other toys is we have the option to buy accessory packs. All our other customized toys come as a set with no options to add change it up without purchasing another vehicle or set. This way Lucian was able to browse the backs and get exactly what he wanted, including the Street Drifter Accessory Pack.
My guys like switching out the parts and trading them with each other for a new look! It is quick and easy and they don’t struggle at all to change them out. We haven’t had issues with broken pieces and I like that the vehicles are sturdy and made of wood.
One of the most exciting pieces from the collection is the Tri-Level Super Garage play set. Isn’t it awesome?
If there is one thing we’ve always been missing in our toy collection, it is a large parking garage. My husband even took a large piece of cardboard a few years ago and drew out roads with parking lots so Lucian could “park” his vehicles somewhere. He has always wanted a garage, we simply never saw one to purchase for him.
Designed for ages 3 and up, this garage is made of wood and features orange and blue accents. It took my husband a bit of time to put together but the instructions were clear and he didn’t find it difficult.
It has three levels and features plenty of parking space and even a working elevator with crank.
Also included are 30 decals which can easily be moved around the garage. The boys like moving these around and using them for activities like getting gas.
The ramps are not actually attached, they simply rest securely upon the other level. My boys enjoy taking the ramps out for “accidents” as part of their chases.
While the garage is intended for the Motorworks line, it works great for vehicles of various size and is the perfect gift for any child who enjoys automotive toys.
Overall we are very happy with this set as a whole and I look forward to adding other accessory packs and vehicle to our collection!
BUY IT:
Vehicles are priced from $13.99 to $29.99 (two-pack vehicle sets) and accessories from custom car decals to monster wheels start at $4.99. The Tri-Level garage is bit more of an investment at $100 but is a very versatile piece and worth it in my opinion. You can purchase the collection at Driven by Fun.
WIN IT:
I have one vehicle package plus one accessory pack to give to a lucky reader! (Total retail value $18.98 to $31.98, depending on winner’s choice.)

I love that they are made out of wood.
Trying to decide if we should spend the money on the garage. My son loves playing with it at the local toy store. Plus it should work with his automoblox.
i like that the kids can build the car by themselves
Made of wood.
I love these play toys especially being made from wood reminds me the kind we played with as kids. I like how you can change things up when the kids are playing with them .
I like that it’s not made of plastic and won’t fall apart quickly and there are so many you can add to your collection
1. How easily interchangeable the parts are. 2. NO Batteries to change!! 3. Classic wooden toy look.
I like they are made of wood! Getting so tired of plastic toys that require batteries!
I like how it’s more than just a toy car; being able to customize the pieces takes it to another level. Also I think it’s something to get the parents in on the fun by helping put the pieces together and pick out the parts.
I like that they are different from most cars out on the market.
I like that they are wood and he can build them. My son loves to figure things out on his own
it is kid durable and very neat looking

Simple to assemble / disassemble – made from wood – looks like quality!
I love how creative they are
They look like quality, tough toys. My son could get a lot of use out of these! Also love that they’re wood.
What I like most is the easy assembly.
