Preschooler Problem Solving with Fisher-Price Think & Learn Code-a-pillar + Giveaway

When it comes to toys and games, I look for those that teach my children not only important skills but also encourage independent play and creative thinking. If a toy can not only keep my child entertained today, but tomorrow and months down the road, I know it was money well spent. Fisher-Price has created an entire line of toys called designed to offer Preschoolers hands on learning that inspire little learners to be big thinkers. These toys allow for endless, inventive ways to play that keep children engaged.

The developmental toys in the Think & Learn line spark your kids’ natural curiosity, and are friends that play in all kinds of new ways. When kids are busy playing, they’re building more than preschool learning: the foundation to grow into big thinkers.

Wesley, my four year old, received the recently released ™ so we could experience first hand how this line of toys help children grow.

Designed for ages 3 to 6, the Fisher-Price Think & Learn Code-a-Pillar is made up of eight interlocking sections which dictate the actions of the toy. These easy-to-connect segments have endless combinations and can go forward, left, right or play music.

Wesley found it simple to pull the segments apart and put back together.

While he caught on quickly that he could dictate what his Think & Learn Code-a-pillar would do next, it has taken a lot of trial error to determine how far and in each direction he could go before he ran out of space.

Two destination targets are included in this set which allow you to determine both a start and finish line for the Code-a-pillar if you so choose.

One simple way to play is to try and him to the finish line without bumping into anything in the room. Setting up obstacles makes this even more of a challenge!

Once you turn on your Fisher-Price Think & Learn Code-a-pillar, he lights up and makes fun sounds. Each segment also lights up as the the toy determines the order of the segments before moving and then again as he performs each action in the sequence.

You can use as many of the segments as you like for your sequence and in any order. If the Code-a-pillar bumps into anything, he simply stops and waits for you to correct him before moving again and eventually shutting down if you don’t.

Wesley loves his new toy and we’ve found endless ways to experiment and try, try again. We look forward to trying the expansion packs which include funny sounds, wacky behavior and additional directions including 180 degree turns versus the 90 degree turns in this original set. Even my 8 and 9 year old have fun with this toy! The only downside we could find with this toy is that it does struggle with thicker carpeting. While the Code-a-pillar could get around on our living room rug, he would often stop when he hit the edge, thinking he hit an obstacle. We just roll up the rug before playing.
