Pumpkin Apple Smoothie Bowl with Gluten Free Cheerios

Inspired by the flavors of fall, I made this delicious Pumpkin Apple Smoothie Bowl earlier this month. Smoothie bowls are currently a major trend, popping up everywhere on social media. While the portability of smoothies are appealing, smoothie bowls offer the chance to add additional toppings that would normally have to be blended to fit through a straw.
You might have already heard the news that five gluten free flavors of Cheerios (Yellow Box, Honey Nut, Apple Cinnamon, Frosted, and Multigrain) hit stores last month. Whether you saw an actual announcement or noticed the gluten free the label on the box, word has definitely gotten out. Since 30% of the population follows a gluten free diet from such things as gluten sensitivity and diseases like Celiac Disease, this is big news. The price an availability has stayed the same, opening up an inexpensive way to enjoy a wider variety of cereals.
The pumpkin banana smoothie features pumpkin pie spice to give it that delicious pumpkin pie taste we all know and love. I topped my bowl with crisp apple, raisins, pecans and breakfast favorite, Cheerios cereal.

Pumpkin Apple Smoothie Bowl
Ingredients
- 1 cup pumpkin puree frozen
- 1 medium ripe banana. frozen
- 1/4 cup Gluten-Free Cheerios yellow box
- 1/2 cup Yoplait Greek Yogurt or plain/vanilla yogurt
- 1/2 cup skim milk or 1% low-fat milk
- 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon honey optional
- 1/3 cup chopped apple
- 1 1/2 tablespoons chopped pecans
- 1 1/2 tablespoons raisins
Instructions

In a blender, puree pumpkin, banana, yogurt, milk, pumpkin pie spie and vanilla. Pour into single-serving bowl.

Top with Cheerios, pecans, apple and raisins.

Serve immediately.
Half the fun with a smoothie bowl is presentation, so get creative with how you add your toppings. I added mine in straight lines, making sure I left some of the smoothie visible.If you could put fall directly into a bowl, this would be the way to do it.
Keep in mind that this smoothie bowl is quite filling and could easily be divided into two servings.

(Multigrain Cheerios was the only flavor reformulated to remove wheat and barley, and instead add gluten-free grains sorghum and millet.) It is such an amazing accomplishment.
We are always looking for ways to make our cereals even better. The new Gluten Free Cheerios varieties are in addition to the work General Mills has done to remove high fructose corn syrup, reduce sugar, and the recent commitment General Mills has made to remove artificial flavors and colors from artificial sources from the rest of our cereals.
