Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge: Our Mother’s Day Weekend Vacation Part 1

Sharing is caring!

Want to get away? Need to get away? I love vacations as they are a great way to feel rejuvenated even if only for a short period of time. A fabulous option for a getaway is Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge in Deerwood, MN.  My family and I had the opportunity to stay at this resort for a special Mother’s Day weekend. We discovered that Ruttger’s is a wonderful mix of both luxury and the great outdoors. Our only regret was that our stay wasn’t longer! Since there is so much to share I’ve decided to break this up into  two posts.

I’ll start with lodging!

Many different types of accommodations are offered. From modern condominiums and gorgeous villas to rustic cabins and simple lodge rooms, there is something to fit anyone’s needs.

Since we had never been to Ruttger’s, we really didn’t know what to expect when we arrived. A two bedroom, two bath cottage by the lake was waiting for us, which worked perfectly for our family of five.

I was excited to see a nice deck overlooking Bay Lake to give us some great outdoor space.

It also afforded us this stunning view right outside our door!

While many of the more modern options like the condominiums include kitchens, the cottages do not. Instead they offer a refrigerator and coffee maker.  Microwaves can be requested. This is much like a hotel room. Because most packages here offer a free buffet for breakfast and dinner (more on the amazing food to come) it isn’t as necessary to have a kitchen. In fact, I rather enjoyed that I didn’t feel like I should be cooking for lunch. If I were to stay here an entire week I would have stocked up on some food that would work well with this scenario such as sandwich fixings, fruit and yogurt.

This cottage had a nice front living space with a full couch, rocking chair, telephone and a small television which offered cable.

The main bedroom included a very comfortable king sized bed, dresser with mirror, walk in closet and a very nice sized modern bathroom!

The second bedroom had full and twin beds, a dresser and decent sized closet along with another bathroom!

One of my favorite added features where these shutters for both bedrooms which allowed the cottage to feel much more open during the day but gave some privacy at night. During the day if you kept them open you got a lake view from your bed!

The bathrooms gave all the modern conveniences of a hotel including soft towels, eco friendly soaps and a blow dryer!

While I assumed a cottage would actually be pretty rustic, comparing it to the last two cabins we had stayed at in the last few years, this really wasn’t at all. We even had air conditioning! I loved the privacy and the location near the main lodge yet on the lake.

I can’t wait to share with you more details including food! Watch for part two coming soon!

Part 2: The Amazing Food at Ruttger’s

Disclosure: We received a two night stay, including breakfast and dinner paid for by Ruttger’s to share our experience. Other ammenties and travel expenses were not paid. No monetary compensation has been received and all thoughts remain 100% my own.

That looks perfect for a small family. Now that we’ve stayed in a two-bedroom cottage for a vacation I can’t imagine ever going back to a one room hotel room! And, oh my goodness, how amazing is that view?! Ahhhhh…. so peaceful.

Can’t wait to read more about your trip.

We actually live less than hour for Ruttger’s and like to go there just for the golf a couple times a year. It’s a real fun little course that they have.
