As parents we want the best for our children as they chase their dreams. Sometimes we chase our OWN dreams for them. Before my daughter could walk, my husband has wanted her to ride a bike with him. The lengths that he’s gone to achieve this dream for her has been impressive!

In the soon to be released (June 30th, 2017) movie, The House, starring Will Ferrel and Amy Poehler,

They decide to start an illegal casino in their neighbor’s house to earn it back the funds so she can pursue her dream of attending a university.

Thankfully my husband hasn’t gone to illegal lengths to help our daughter succeed.
When our oldest daughter was little she loved watching her daddy race his bike. She was excited to ride her own plastic trike around the yard and was thrilled when she received her very own “big girl bike” for her third birthday.
My husband bought the extra-small two-wheeler fully loaded. She loved playing with the pink tassels and ringing the bell – but never got the hang of riding it despite his efforts.
In hopes that she’d someday love biking, he got her a beat up old tricycle. She loved it but our sidewalks were terribly cracked and she got frustrated going over them.That lead to the next bike upgrade. He completely restored a mega-trike with huge wheels that could easily conquer the bumps along her path. SHE LOVED IT. So much so that she refused to ride her two-wheeler.We wanted to bike as a family so we tried the popular bike trailer but she couldn’t bike herself. Next he brought home one of the most exciting bikes yet, the Wee Hoo. This incredible bike attaches to the back of a traditional adult bike. My daughter could pedal along and feel like she was really biking.

The dreams still continued for her to ride her own two-wheeler so as she got bigger, so did the bike, and so did our collection in the garage.

Fast-forward several years and we have another little one with bicycle dreams. Big sister is eager to help her learn, but still not conquering her fear of yet another two-wheeled upgrade. We’ve removed the training wheels and dedicated this summer to learn. Meanwhile, little sister is trying out that first, itty bitty two-wheeler!

And when it comes to family biking time …

… my husband never gives up on a dream!
