I love a good dessert that doubles as a breakfast if you squint, much like chocolate crepes , pancake nachos or even this coffee cake. But seriously, these brownies would make a great celebratory (or romantic depending upon the occasion) breakfast option for Valentines Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, anniversary. Shhhh….it’s ok. I won’t tell. If you would like a healthier option check out this Valentine’s smoothie bowl.
Brownie Waffle Ingredients
These brownie waffles only require a few ingredients:
- brownie mix
- eggs
- vegetable oil
- water
- toppings such as chocolate syrup, ice cream, whipped cream, fresh strawberries or mini chocolate chips (optional)
Exact ingredients may vary depending upon the brownie mix used. Be sure you have the ingredients for cake-like brownies as stated on your brownie mix.
How to Make Brownie Waffles
To make these brownie waffles, you’ll want to start by preheating your waffle iron. Prepare your brownie batter in a medium bowl and follow the instructions for cake like brownies. For the brownie mix I used, it meant adding an extra egg.
Grease waffle iron with a bit of cooking spray to prevent sticking. Pour batter into waffle iron and close the lid. (Use the amount recommended by your waffle maker. Mine was just under one cup of batter.)
Cook for approximately 3 1/2 to 5 minutes, or until steaming stops. Time will vary depending upon your waffle iron.
Remove brownie waffle and repeat with remaining batter. Serve waffles with your favorite toppings such as syrup, whipped cream, fresh fruit, powdered sugar, chocolate syrup, mini chocolate chips or ice cream.
Heart Waffles
Another fun variation is to make these into heart brownies. To make brownie batter waffles into a heart shape, you’ll need a heart mini waffle iron. These Mini Dash waffle makers are super inexpensive, easy to use and a lot of fun.
Follow the same instructions, just using a lot less batter. I carefully filled it until it was mostly covered, approximately 1/4 cup and then shut the lid. It took approximately three minutes to fully cook each brownie.
If you love the outside edges of the pan in of a batch of brownies, you’ll love the lightly crispy outside texture you get from making brownie waffles.
These heart-shaped brownie waffles will make your sweetheart (or kids) swoon this Valentine’s Day, birthday, anniversary, Mother’s Day or Father’s Day.. They’re easy to make, and they’re sure to please any chocolate lover. Add their favorite toppings for an extra special treat.
