Several years ago I got this adorable fairy garden kit for my daughter and I to put together. It’s become a yearly tradition to plant on mother’s day. I love that we both learn more about plants while spending creative time together. Wondering how to build a fairy garden with kids? Today we’re sharing how we put together a beautiful fairy garden scene with butterflies and a gnome house with broken pot rock steps!
Our local garden center has a section specifically for fairy garden plants which makes it easy to select for someone without a lot of gardening experience.
Many people add moss or pebbles around the plants. There are so many adorable fairy garden ideas on Pinterest.
The fairy kits, available in many local garden centers or online, add the cutest touches. Ours included a bench, watering can, trellis, bird feeder (which I put a tea light in). Since our flowers weren’t blooming yet we added a pop of color with some beautiful butterflies.

After a creative day at our local ceramic studio, we had a bright addition to our fairy garden with this little house I painted to look like a strawberry!
While I was showing my daughter more ideas for fairy gardens on Pinterest, we were excited to find these adorable broken pot gardens. One of our large garden pots was damaged in our move a few summers back and has been sitting by the shed.
With one hit of the hammer our cracked pot was transformed into a gnome home! My daughter set to work planting the tiny flower garden and had fun deciding where our little gnome (painted at a local craft ceramic center) would live. She tipped a simple pot upside-down to create a home for him in the garden. She was content scribbling with a pen, but a hand-painted pot would be adorable as well and would add some color to your garden.
We packed dirt into the gap and set stones into it to create a little stairway up the side of the pot. I love how cute it turned out with that detail.
