Cool Beach Party with @Target #Spritz

Staring at all these bright party pictures from a couple of days ago are putting me in such a fun mood as I write this post.

Ain’t no party like a cool beach party cuz a cool beach party don’t stop…. (need I say more?)

Target recently challenged a group of bloggers to create a Target Spritz party tablescape using everyday items around our home paired with their new Spritz party assortment.  To help us with this task, Target provided us with a box full of bright and colorful partyware! I was surprised just how affordable the items were and put my thinking cap on to come up with something easy that anyone could create.

And as my three year old would say, close your eyes

Ta-da!

I chose the beach theme because with our current yard a horrible shade of brown here in Minnesota, we could use a sunny celebration inside. And what better way to welcome the upcoming warmer weather than with a beach party? I also thought it would be easily recreated by anyone with items found already in their home.

I used an assortment of beach, sand and bath toys for accents, including a Melissa & Doug sand pail from their Sunny Patch line as a centerpiece. I filled the pail with fruit to really make the colors pop and look more tropical. Party favors from the Spritz line including squirt guns and whistles tied well into this theme.

I dug out my collection of beach towels to use as bright tablecloths and to decorate our large dining room window. I realized I had several blue towels so I used my extra large one for our table and chose three of them to hang around my curtain rod. I accented them with a Spritz banner and assorted balloons. (Aren’t the polka dot balloons fun?)

And of course no party would be complete with a dessert table!  I used another beach towel and mostly bath toys to decorate my buffet.

To really get my kids excited, I created these cupcake sundae cones made up of chocolate cake, buttercream frosting, hot fudge sauce, nuts and a cherry on top. These were very easy to create and were inspired by the blog, The Vanilla Bean Baker. I had to remind myself several times that it wasn’t ice cream on those cones. Talk about a sugar high! My four year old was in heaven.

I also discovered that brown sugar works great as sand! I know bugs are typically an annoyance at parties but these little guys are too cute to shoo away.

I completed this party in an afternoon and my two boys woke up from a nap to find their dining room transformed. They were both so excited and I realized these small, totally unexpected gestures do make some fabulous memories.

With a small budget, some imagination and a little help from Target, an amazing celebration is truly simple to achieve!

Disclosure: The Spritz partyware was sent to me by Target and I used a majority of these items to create my party and will be keeping the remainder. All of the opinions and thoughts shared are 100% my own not influenced by any compensation.

  1. So much good to say! Brown sugar as sand? Genius! Beach towel as table cloth? Really fun idea! You are so creative Emilie, I love it.

And that picnic basket looks familiar 🙂

You take lovely photos too, they all turned out so bright and cheery. Makes me wanna stop by for the party!

    1. Aw, thanks Annie! It would have been awesome to have some more guests!

The absolute key to good pictures is natural light. I actually planned this party around the weather so I could get some nice shots. And since this celebration was “just because” I could actually do that. Birthdays get tough! The last two in my family were dark, overcast days. Not fun!

    1. Thanks for the awesome compliment Jennifer! Actually I usually concentrate on the food *ahem* but this one was lots of fun to actually decorate. I tried to pick a theme and household items that would be easy for anyone to duplicate with the spritz partyware. I love these types of challenges to bring out my creative side. And I work so much better when I have a few days to think through my ideas, as I’m sure you well know! 🙂
