My most popular recipe on my blog by far are these Homemade Drop Biscuits and with good reason. They are a regular in my house and one that can be prepared with just a few basic ingredients and are on the table in less than 20 minutes. I love that there is no rolling out dough! This week I decided it would be fun to add a couple of ingredients to make them a perfect holiday side.  Trust me, you and your family are going to love these Homemade Cranberry Orange Drop Biscuits!

I added some refreshing Thanksgiving flavors to my drop biscuit recipe by including orange zest and fresh cranberries.

This recipe is very easy to mix up, but you will want to work fast once you add your milk and butter to your dry ingredients. Be sure to not over mix the batter so you get nice and fluffy biscuits!

Homemade Cranberry Orange Drop Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 to 3 tablespoons sugar depending upon how sweet you like them
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons finely grated orange zest about one medium orange
  • 2/3 cup fresh cranberries
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup milk whole milk preferred
  • Topping: Smucker's Fruit & Honey Triple Berry Fruit Spread or other variety

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 450 degrees. Mix together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, cranberries and zest.
  2. Add melted butter and milk. Stir just until moistened.
  3. Immediately drop by heaping tablespoons (15 biscuits) onto lightly greased or parchment paper/silicone baking sheet lined large cookie sheet.
  4. Cook for 10 to 12 minutes or until edges turn golden brown.

The Smuckers Fruit & Honey Fruit Spreads are naturally sweetened with honey and all would would work well with these biscuits.  I went with the Triple Berry.

You can slice your biscuits in half with a serrated knife and top with your Smuckers Fruit & Honey Fruit Spread.

Or you can dollop some on the top. However you serve it, it is guaranteed to be delicious.

    So easy, great texture. Made for Thanksgiving and served with homemade sausage gravy. People are still begging for the recipes!!! Thank you for saving me!!

    1. I haven’t tried it with orange extract but I’m sure it would be delicious! Rule of thumb is ½ the amount of extract is needed to replace 1 part of zest. I do use quite a bit of zest for this recipe so I would probably try it with 2 teaspoons of orange extract so it isn’t overwhelming. Hope that helps!
