Sparkling Mermaid Ice Cream Cones

Do you love the current mermaid trend? Over the summer I went on a mermaid kick, coming up with all sorts of ways to celebrate with a mermaid party. This included tutorials like how to make mermaid smoothie shots and informational posts like how to choose the perfect mermaid tail mold for your project. Of course I also included plenty of recipes too but having fun with mermaid inspired treats does not have to be limited to special celebrations. These mermaid ice cream cones work great for everyday or a party! Taking something as simple as an ice cream cone and making it magical with a couple of easy steps is a great way to add a little sparkle into your day.
To start this project you’ll definitely want some candy melts in at least two colors and some pearl dust to add that “magic” to the cones. Amazon can ship all these items right to you so you don’t have to search for the items in store.

I tried three different color combinations for my mermaid ice cream cones including turquoise, bright white and lavender candy melts. Bright white is a great option for making lighter hues of your favorite colors.
For my first group of cones I wanted them to resemble beach waves, much like this mermaid chocolate bark I made a few months back. The key is to swirl the two colors together without mixing them too much.
I melted my candy melts in the microwave and used an extra small dish so I wouldn’t need as many for the chocolate to reach the sides of the cones. Your chocolate will start to blend together a bit as you continue to dip your sugar cones so they won’t all look exactly the same. That is half the fun, don’t you think?
Wesley had fun helping me with this project. Having this cupcake cone baking rack to dry them was awesome and also would be great for serving at a party.
Alternatively you could also place them in a glass to dry as long as it is tall enough to hold them up yet short enough to not touch the chocolate as it dries
At first I thought the sugar cones looked so pretty right after I dipped them. But when I added the silver pearl dust it took these cones to a whole other level. I really couldn’t believe the difference!
I also experimented with a few other color combinations. My least favorite was actually when I marbled together turquoise and lavender candy melts.
I thought about not using them at all because they just seemed too dark right after I dipped them. That was until I added the pearl dust. It immediately brightened them up and made them look so pretty!
I also tried it a version using bright white, turquoise and lavender candy melts. I think this was my favorite!
Instead of marbling the chocolate together I simply dropped some melted candy melts in and started dipping. I really love how these was turned out! While I made these to fit a mermaid theme, I think they would work so well for a Frozen birthday party!
These mermaid cones felt almost too pretty to eat!I offered my kids a choice of vanilla, mint chocolate chip or cherry chocolate chunk ice cream. Each chose a different variety.
To add to the magic of these mermaid cones, I added some edible gold glitter stars to the tops of these cones. I love that these sprinkles look gorgeous but don’t affect the taste or texture of the food. I have found them cheaper on Amazon than my local craft store.

What a fun treat for kiddos! We had a blast making these mermaid ice cream cones for our party 🙂
How long can you make these ahead of time? How about the mermaid tails as well? I am trying to plan ahead before the birthday party day gets here!
As longs as you store them in an airtight container you should be good to go. The mermaid tails you can make well in advance. I’d probably do the cones within a couple of days of the party for optional freshness. Cones in general can go stale pretty fast. Hope you have fun at your party!
