Air fryer biscuit donuts are definitely one of those recipes for me. Some of the best recipes are just simple.

Air Fryer Donut Holes Ingredients

For this biscuit donut recipe you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • Pillsbury Grands Biscuits: I like to use the Flaky Layers in the Buttermilk or Butter Tastin’ flavors. Honey Butter would be another great choice, although I haven’t tried that yet. The Flaky Layers variety offers more of a pastry texture than the Pillsbury Grands Southern Homestyle Biscuits. But you can use whichever you prefer or have on hand.
  • Sugar: Just the standard white granulated sugar.
  • Cinnamon: If you are out of cinnamon or you would like to try something different, you can use two teaspoons pumpkin pie spice, apple pie spice or use a mixture of cinnamon and nutmeg. For this recipe I’d use 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg.
  • Butter: Salted or unsalted, whichever you prefer.

How to Make Donuts in the Air Fryer

These air fryer donut holes with biscuits are not exactly donut holes. More like donut bites.  While you can cut small holes if you like with a mini round cutter, I prefer to not waste any of the biscuit dough. So for this recipe, you just need to squint for the donut “hole” and cut biscuits into quarters for maximum efficiency. Trust me, no one will care about their shape.

Pillsbury Grands Flaky Biscuits for Donuts

Start by preheating your air fryer at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray air fryer basket with cooking spray. Add cut biscuits to air fryer basket/tray in an even layer, being careful to not over pack or overlap.  Cook in the air fryer for 3 minutes.

Carefully turn biscuits over and cook additional 1 to 2 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately remove biscuits.

Brush melted butter over warm biscuits. You want to make sure to get all sides so your entire donut holes gets covered in cinnamon and sugar. I like to do a few of the donut holes at a time.

Immediately drop into cinnamon sugar and to fully coat and place in serving dish. You could also try placing your cinnamon and sugar mixture in ziploc bag and shaking them gently to coat. However, these flaky biscuits are a bit more fragile than the homestyle biscuits and I didn’t want to risk pulling them apart.

Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature. Serve with eggs or your favorite breakfast meats such as sausage, bacon or ham and perhaps this tropical fruit salad recipe.

I really can’t tell you how much my family loved these air fryer donuts from Pillsbury Grands. They have no right to be as delicious as they are, but I am not complaining. You would think they would taste like cinnamon sugar biscuits but somehow they take on a flaky pastry texture instead.  So easy to keep these ingredients on hand for a fun weekend breakfast!
