Living in the Midwest, veggie platters have always been a staple at virtually any gathering. While you can always choose a store-bought ranch dip, I can tell you with experience that this ranch veggie dip blows any dip from the store I’ve ever purchased out of the water. Semi-homemade is where it’s at!
Using a ranch seasoning mix, this basic recipe keeps it simple while still getting that homemade creamy dip texture we all love. This is the best dip for a veggie tray! I have used ranch seasoning for everything from 7 can soup to ranch bacon dip to this skull cheese ball. It’s very versatile.
Ranch Veggie Dip Recipe Ingredients
To make this easy ranch veggie dip, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- cream cheese
- sour cream
- mayonnaise
- ranch seasoning mix (I used Hidden Valley Ranch but you can try my Homemade Ranch Dip which uses fresh herbs and pantry spices or you can make homemade ranch seasoning if preferred.)
- fresh chives (optional)
I used fresh chives for my garnish but they are entirely optional. You could also used fresh parsley or dill if preferred or skip it altogether.
This recipe was tested with the full fat version of sour cream and mayonnaise. You can substitute the lighter versions but it will result in a less rich, less creamy dip. Another option is to reduce the mayo in half and add in extra sour cream to reduce the calories and fat.
Don’t like mayo or don’t have it on hand? Not a problem! You can make this with 2 cups sour cream and leave out the mayo. It will give you a thinner dip with stronger tang, but it is also delicious! Out of sour cream? Try this veggie dip with Greek yogurt instead. Just make sure to use plain Greek yogurt!

How to Make Veggie Dip with Ranch Packet
There aren’t a lot of instructions to make this super simple cream cheese veggie dip, but I’m going to break down the steps anyway! To start, beat your softened cream cheese until nice and creamy.
Add in your sour cream, mayo and ranch seasoning mix and mix until well combined. The ranch dip mix will give you the classic flavor of ranch without extra effort.
Serve immediately or cover and chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
Top with chopped fresh chives or other herbs if desired. Serve this ranch dip with your favorite cut vegetables or potato chips for a lovely veggie tray and dip appetizer. Consider offering with a fruit tray and Marshmallow Cream Cheese Fruit Dip or as a side with some chicken wings or buffalo chicken fingers.

Recipe Notes
Can be made one to two days in advance.
This recipe can be adjusted to replace the mayo with all sour cream. (So two cups total of sour cream and no mayonnaise.) This will reduce the amount of calories and fat, however the dip won’t be quite as rich and creamy.
Can serve this dip immediately. However, the longer you refrigerate, the more time this dip has to firm up and flavors a to meld. If you chill for several hours or more and serve immediately after removing from the refrigerator, it will be a bit firmer. Let it sit out at room temperature several minutes before serving and it will be more creamy.
